Quickie with Belle and Ava
Belle and Ava are the founders of Jellytime. We get up close and personal asking them their thoughts on sexuality, pleasure and so much more. They also talk about The Sexytime Podcast and their journey of creating a safe space for sex and sexual wellness.
HOW WOULD YOU INTRODUCE YOURSELF AT A DINNER PARTY?
Belle: I would probably start off by saying, “Hi, I’m Belle. I’m a mom of three. I have a sexual wellness brand in the Philippines, Jellytime, and we also have a podcast, The Sexytime Podcast.” For my sister and I, our mission is to create a safe space for sex and sexual wellness.
Ava: Hey I’m Ava, (and before I can go on you’ll hear my mom from the corner say “you know what she does? She runs a sexual wellness business.”)
WHAT'S THE PERFECT DATE?
Belle: Now that I'm older, what would be a nice is an early morning hike. And then after like a three hour hike, we would go to a nice brunch spot. Have a good breakfast. Get an avo toast, fresh orange juice, nice coffee and fruits. Then, we’ll chill at the beach or go get a massage.
Ava: When you’re new in the relationship, a weekend in a resort anywhere as long as it’s just you guys.
When you’ve been together for a while, cooking for each other at home over a glass of wine and then going for a long walk to get steps in.
BEST AND WORST SEX ADVICE?
Belle: Protect yourself. Use condoms or go on the pill. That's the best advice I got.
Ava: Best would be stop worrying about anything and just be in the moment.
Worst would be don’t wear a condom cause it doesn’t feel nice.
WHAT GIVES YOU PLEASURE?
Belle: When my endorphins are released through sweating. Or, perhaps having a good workout or even just taking care of yourself. Today, I went to the infrared sauna and went for a cold plunge. And then I had hyperbaric chamber in this place called 10x longevity. And I felt so good and strong after. I get a lot of pleasure when I take care of my body, even as simple as getting a massage. I look forward to that.
Ava: Hitting 15k steps, a good workout session, good bowl of Chirashi, Tapa, Avo toast, hanging with my family, hearing people like Jellytime, being with Luch, Shaitsu massages, cold plunges, a good discount, omg I can go on all day.
WHAT WAS YOUR SEX-ED LIKE?
Belle: We didn’t have any sex-ed growing up. I was in an all girls Catholic school. But one of the only things that really stuck with me was a moment with my homeroom teacher. I won't forget her, Mrs. Nunez.
We were cooking chicken and I don't know why the topic came up, but she was like, “You know, when you look in your underwear, if you have white mucus like discharge, that is normal for girls. You are going through puberty. Your hormones change. It happens when you get your period. That's your body preparing. I was so uncomfortable, but I never forgot it because as a teenager, you're so curious about your body. And when somebody explains it like that in that manner, then it makes a lot of sense.
Ava: Non-existent in school but I learned sex through movies like Porky's and Showgirls and of course my own sneaky research.
WHAT'S ON YOUR BEDSIDE TABLE?
Belle: Lucas’ Papaw Ointment, Tiger Balm, Two Tubes of Jellytime, Bobble, Chinchilla, Charger, Phone, Books
Ava: Melatonin, Jellytime, magnesium, my Apple Watch charger and my massage oil
WHAT WOULD YOUR ADVICE BE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF ON SEXUALITY?
Belle: It's okay to explore, not to link it so much with shame. That's part of growing up—getting to know your body and finding out what you like or what you don't like.
Ava: Don’t worry you’ll learn it in time!
WHAT IS SEXY TO YOU?
Belle: Sexy is knowing what you want. But also, it can mean clean pearly white teeth and good breath. Obviously like a nice and tight body. That's initial attraction.
Ava: A man with a cute face and a good body but isn’t vain and is ambitious.
