International Women's Month Special: Let's give the limelight to these bad-ass girl bosses
This March, we're celebrating International Women's Month — It's the perfect time to commemorate women's achievements and advocate for women's rights everywhere. International Women's day is a global holiday celebrating women's social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. Again, the IWD community triumphed in collective action and shared ownership to drive gender parity.
Check out their website to see how you can participate and show your support this International Women's Month.
With this, what better way to celebrate women than appreciating the fantastic, sexy, passionate, and talented women who run the world? Here are the phenomenal girl bosses who have made their mark in their industry and built successful empires. Here are some of our favorite bad-ass women:
Beyonce
Of course, the ultimate Queen B tops this list! But you may live under a rock if you haven't heard of Beyonce. Honestly, what can't she do? Beyoncé Giselle Knowles — AKA Sasha Fierce, Yonce, and Queen Bey — is a Grammy award-winning and Oscar-nominated singer, songwriter, actress, performer, and dancer. Being part of the former girl group Destiny's Child, she is the perfect example of someone who created a household name for herself and created her own identity. Beyonce's latest hit album Renaissance made history as it capped off Beyonce's record of most Grammy wins in a lifetime (32 Grammys!)
Alexandra Cooper
Alex Cooper is mainly known for hosting "Call Her Daddy," — one of the most successful woman-led podcasts. She calls herself the "Founding Father" as she created the first podcast openly discussing sex with no filter, advocating for sex-positivity and women's empowerment. Her creative direction initially began with what she called "female locker-room talk," which has now evolved to sex tips and advice with a "modern twist on feminism." She began her podcast journey with Barstool Sports in 2018, which was formerly owned and distributed by them. Now, she announced an exclusive deal with Spotify worth $60 million.
You can listen to Call Her Daddy here.
Rihanna
Robyn Rihanna Fenty is another well-rounded queen who dabbles in everything and anything you can think of! She's a Grammy award-winning and Oscar-nominated singer, actress, performer, and businesswoman who created brands like Savage X Fenty and Fenty Beauty which is well-loved within the beauty community and Gen Z. Rihanna's make-up line is a worthy mention as it was quickly recognized for its inclusivity in offering 40 different shades of foundation. We love an inclusive queen! Just recently, she performed her hit songs in the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime show — where she also performed for the first time in 7 years and announced baby #2, making it the most-watched pregnancy announcement in world history.
Emily Ratajowski
Emily Ratajowski isn't just a pretty face with a killer body. She's also a talented and well-spoken actress and author. She rose to fame in Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" video in 2013 and acting debuts in Gone Girl (2014) and Entourage (2015). After making a name for herself, she decided to debut as a writer in her New York Times Bestselling book My Body, where she discusses what it means to be both a woman and a commodity as someone who has been under the spotlight since she was a young woman. Her personal essay collection contains the honest and painful realities of working in the fashion and film industry.
Sasha Colby
Are any Drag Race fans out there? Sasha Colby is arguably one of the most formidable competitors this season. As a former Miss Continental, she has beauty, brains, and talent! She's a real threat with her iconic outfits, bold personality, next-level charisma, and fierce dance moves (Watch her gag-worthy lip sync with Anetra here). All eyes are on Sasha this season, which means that the pressure is on — but that's only because she has cemented such an iconic mark throughout her 20 years in drag. According to host and producer Brett White, Sasha Colby is the past, present, and future of 'RuPaul's Drag Race.'
